About Oregon ACWA
The Oregon Association of Clean Water Agencies (ACWA) is comprised of 75 wastewater treatment and stormwater management agencies and associate members providing water quality services to Oregon's urban areas. The goals of ACWA's members are to:
- Provide sewerage collection and treatment,
- Regulate industries to prevent toxic substance discharges into treatment plants,
- Provide beneficial uses for reclaimed water, biosolids, and compost,
- Collect and manage stormwater runoff,
- Educate the public about water quality,
- Coordinate stormwater monitoring, education, outreach, and technical assistance projects to effectively prevent and reduce pollution levels in urban stormwater,
- Provide leadership in promoting innovative water quality policies, and
- Partner with other members of their community to restore local streams.
ACWA believes that cooperatively addressing water quality and stormwater issues can make a difference in Oregon's water quality. The ACWA offices are located in Portland Oregon, and the Executive Director
is Janet Gillaspie. ACWA is overseen by a Board of Directors.
Examples of ACWA projects include:
- Producing industry-specific pollution prevention brochures and information for members to use in local community education and outreach efforts,
- Contributing funding, technical assistance and support to scientific studies of Oregon's water quality, and
- Conducting highly successful workshops, conferences, and educational sessions on topics of interest to water quality professionals including competitiveness, proper biosolids management, urban stormwater pollution prevention and control, pretreatment program effectiveness, and other topics.
Working together with a shared vision, we can keep our watersheds healthy and productive.
